One of the main goals of treatment is to help you learn how to eat more whole, plant-based foods that feed your health, and crowd out the highly processed foods and animal-based ones (like meat & cheese) that don’t.
A plant based meal is one that’s completely or mostly made up of foods that grow from the earth that haven’t been processed too much. Choose vegetables, beans, peas, lentils, whole grains, fruits, mushrooms, nuts, and seeds. Fill your plate with a variety of these nutrient-rich plant foods and crowd out meat, eggs, dairy, and overly processed foods.
There are so many whole plant foods to choose from. Take plant foods that you already know you enjoy and try combining them in different ways to find your new go-to meals. Here are some examples:
- Oatmeal with blueberries and almond milk
- Kidney and pinto bean chili with tomatoes and onions
- Broccoli and mushroom stir-fry with brown rice and cashews
- Black bean kale tacos with salsa and avocado
- Lentil soup with spinach and carrots
